Sioux City Journal - Friday, March 16, 1928 - A grade crossing accident cost the life of Andrew Drenkhahn, 40 years old, farmer living four miles south of Danbury, Ia., when his automobile stalled on the Chicago and Northwestern railroad tracks at the edge of Danbury and was struck by a fast passenger train Thursday night.

The farmer's touring car, it was said, stopped directly on the tracks, and before Drenkhahn could alight it was hit by train No. 22, Sioux City to Chicago, due at Danbury at 7:12 p.m. The force of the crash hurled it 100 feet from the crossing and demolished it. Drenkhahn's body was found near the wrecked automobile.

Tho train was slowing down for the station stop, and is believed to have been going 25 or 30 miles an hour. Members of the crew were Guy Everett, conductor, and John Dobrey, engineer, both of Sioux City.

The train was stopped and Dr. W.D. Casey was called to give the man medical aid, but he was dead when the physician arrived. Friends of Drenkhahn said that he
had been in Danbury and was on his way to his farm home when the accident happened.

Examination showed that Drenkhahn's head probably was crushed when the loomotive struck his car. His entire body was severely bruised, and one leg was broken. The body was taken to the Henry Fitzpatrick funeral parlors.

Dr. J.H. Bobbins, of Sioux City, county coroner, said that the man's death plainly was accidental, and that he did not think it would be necessary for him to make a personal investigation.

The accident victim is survived by a widow and five children. His parents and four brothers and one sister live in the vicinity of Danbury. With his family, Drenkhahn moved to the farm from Burbank, SD., on March 1.
