Donald E. “Shorty” Clary, 84, of Hollidaysburg (formerly of Greencastle), passed away Tuesday at the Presbyterian Village at Hollidaysburg. He was born in Chambersburg, son of the late Howard P. and Ruth V. (Fox) Clary. In 1959, he married Barbara A. Davis.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years; a son, David, and wife, Lou Ann, of Hollidaysburg; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard.

Donald was a 1954 graduate of Greencastle-Antrim High School and a graduate of Shippensburg State Teachers College, where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Ed and a Master’s of Education Degree in 1958. He played baseball at SSTC and was Co-Captain of the 1958 team which won the SSTC Championship.

Shorty served in the U.S. Army Reserves during the Korean Conflict, and earned the rank of Staff Sergeant before completing his service. He taught Business Ed. at Hollidaysburg Area High School for 35 years, and coached baseball, basketball, and girls’ softball before retiring in 1994.

He was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hollidaysburg for over 50 years, and served as an usher and church treasurer for many years.

In his free time, Shorty enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time at his cabin, keeping the scorebook for his son’s girls’ basketball teams, walking and frisbeeing his dog, Shooter, attending plays with his wife, playing cards with friends, and talking with former students.

At the convenience of the family, a private celebration of life service will be held at a later date. Interment will be at Alexandria Presbyterian Cemetery in Alexandria, PA.

In memory of Shorty, contributions may be given to the Memorial Fund of Zion Lutheran Church or the Shippensburg University Foundation (Attn: Class of 1958), 1871 Old Main Dr, Shippensburg, PA 17257.
