She attended Young Harris College and graduated in 1936. She worked at Sears Roebuck in Atlanta, GA, where she met Gene, when he was passing out free samples of crackers from the company for which he worked. They were married on February 3, 1939. She was a longtime member of Peachtree Christian Church, Atlanta, and a member of the Priscilla Group. She was preceded in death by her parents Harry Jether Minor Cooper and Andrew James Cooper; husband, Thomas Eugene Burel; and youngest daughter, Marsha Jean Starr Burel Fish. She is survived by two daughters, Vicki Burel Watts, Charlotte, NC, and Cheryl Burel Simpson, Clayton, GA; nine grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.
