Serena was the daughter of Seward Myers a fisherman and wife Lydia Hunt of Lubec, Washington County, Maine. She was age 4 with her parents in Lubec in the 1850 census, name spelled Miars. She had siblings Martha, Olive, Wellington, Albert and Sophia. Her father was a seaman.

Serena's DOB varies. Town records give Nov 22 1845 for daughter of Seward and Lydia Miars (Her birth recorded at the same time as her brother Seward who was born in 1842.) She was 4 yrs of age in the 1850 census which was enumerated July 24 and Serena gives her birth as Oct 1846 in the 1910 census. Her cemetery stone shows born 1846.

Serena was married to Daniel W. Blackwood Nov 21, 1864 in Lubec by Rev. SS Grass. (Soloman Gross of Lubec) Her name was spelled Syrene A. Myers in the original town marriage record and Serena in the state record. Daniel was a mariner and age 23 and Serena was age 18, first marriage for both. Daniel was the son of James and Susanna Blackwood.

Serena had children including Merton W. Blackwood born Sept 10, 1866 (who married Marie E. Cousins of South Lubec Dec 24, 1892 at age 25 and later divorced), and one other child John born 1869 who died as a baby. In 1870 they were residing in Lubec and son Merton was age 4. In the 1880 census in Pembroke, Merton was the only child and age 13.

In the 1910 census Serena had given birth to two children with one of them still living. Daniel was age 72 and Serena age 64 and she was a dressmaker. In 1920 Daniel was 81 and Serena 74 and living with them was a niece Idella Bennett age 45.

Daniel died in 1927 and Serena was living with her neighbors Robert and Jessie Clark, age 84 in the 1930 census. (Robert Franklin Clark 1876-1964 also buried Clarkside) Serena's name is engraved on the Daniel Blackwood's stone. Attached to Daniel's memorial is Merton Blackwood buried in Portland Maine. Either that is the wrong Merton or his DOB of 1871 is off. In all the census they only had the one child Merton born 1866.
