CAREY – Funeral services for Doris Welma Heuberger-Water, 85 of 952 State Hwy. 568, Carey, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Ridge Chapel Church of the Nazarene, near Carey, the Rev. Buck Traylor officiating. Burial will be in Wharton-Richland Union Cemetery, Wharton.  

 

Visitation will be held from 2-9 p.m. Thursday at Stombaugh Batton Funeral Home, Carey, and an hour before services at the church Friday. Mrs. Heuberger-Walter died at 6:55 p.m. Monday, March 26, 2001 at St. Catherine's Care Center, Fostoria. 

 

She was born March 3, 1916 in Wood County to Joseph and Leona (Coger) Kerr. She married Glenn D. Heuberger on Oct. 7, 1937, and he died March 8, 1952. She then married Paul E. Walter on Dec. 24, 1955, and he survives. 

 

Also, surviving is son Dale (Sharon), Sylvania; stepsons Ted E. (Rosemary) Walter, Findlay, Gene A. (Kathleen) Walter, Carey and Vern E. Walter, Honolulu. Daughters Mrs. Robert (Doris L.) Walker, Rising Sun and Mrs. Richard (Darlene A.) Knowlton, Findlay; stepdaughters Mrs. F. Joe (Arlene) Bennett and Mrs. Olin (Sharon) Nuzum both of Arlington, Mrs. Lewis (Marlene) Young of Bourbonnais, IL and Darlene Walter of Carey; 21 combined grandchildren, and 21 combined great-grandchildren.   

 

She was proceeded in death by a son, Donald R. Heuberger; stepson John W. Walter; a grandchild; three sisters, Anna E. Stump, Aletha P. Passet and Edith Kerr, and a stepfather Pete Kauble.   

 

Mrs. Heuberger-Walter was the first female postmaster of Wharton in 1952. She also worked at Westinghouse, Upper Sandusky and was a homemaker.   She graduated from Wharton High School in 1934. 

 

She was a 33-year member of Ridge Chapel Church of the Nazarene and had attended Trinity Baptist Church, Findlay. She was a church organist and pianist for several years and volunteered at the Broken Arrow Home.   

 

Memorials may be made to Dorcas Carey Public Library, the church or the Broken Arrow home, 225 W. Findlay Street, Carey, 43316-1169.
