Ellington

Funeral services for Marshall Dwain "Duke" Ellington were held Wednesday, August 28, 2002 p.m. in the Rose Chapel with Lloyd Unsell officiating. Burial was in the Sayre-Doxey Cemetery under direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service.

Marshell, the youngest son of Ben and Selma Ellington was born June 14, 1940 in Magazine, AR and passed away August 25, 2002.

Marshall moved to Berlin with his family when he was seven years of age and attended Berlin School through the 9th grade. The family moved to Sayre where he graduated from high school.

He worked at White's Auto during school and later joined the Oklahoma National Guard where he served until 1965. He attended Sayre Junior College, graduating with an Associates degree. He started working for Dodson Cable which later became Dorate. While working at Dodson Cable, Bunk nicknamed him "Duke".

Marshall met Dorothy Wilson while attending Sayre Junior College and later the two were married in the Sayre Church of Christ in Sayre on January 11, 1962. Two daughters were born in Sayre and they moved to Delhart, TX, later to Burlington, CO for brief stints before moving to Elkhart, KS in 1965 remaining till 1971 when they moved to Nocona, Tx living there till 1985. They moved to Kingfisher, OK and later to Enid, OK. Duke was in the cable business for 40 years and spent the last three years in the small TV satellite business. They had lived in Tahlequah, Ok the last three years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Abner.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of the home; two daughters, Karla Dianne Ellington of Boston, MA and Kim snd husband Tom Ritchie of Enid, OK; twin granddaughters, Heather of Enid and Jamie of Ft. Leonard Wood, MO; one grandson, Matthew Logan Ritchie; mother-n-law, Lucille Wilson of McAlester, OK; four brothers, Clem and Doris of Fort Smith, AR, Aldon and Irene of Lomita, CA, Doyal and Erna of Stockton, CA, and Bill of Royce City, TX; three sisters, Margaret Montgomery of Tulsa, Ok, Johnnie May and Charles Abby of Enid and Emma Sharp of Houston, TX; a host of brothers and sisters-in-law, as well as cousins, nieces and nephews. A cousin, Michelle Viers of Sayre survives him.
