Ellen Elaine Leth-Nissen, age 70, of Benton.

Ellen Elaine Leth-Nissen’s life began on October 2, 1950 in Portsmouth, VA; the daughter of Kenneth and Carroll (Alexander) King, Sr. She was united in marriage to John P. Leth-Nissen on May 21, 1976 in San Jose, CA.

Ellen loved children, which was a large part of why she chose to work for the Circle School District for 30+ years, first as a volunteer and then as a paraprofessional. She had a compassionate spirit and was passionate about helping others. She cared deeply for her family, which included her friends and students as she “adopted” countless individuals into her extended family. Her love knew no bounds and it was her life mission to ensure others were safe, healthy, and happy.

Ellen passed away peacefully on October 15, 2020 surrounded by her family. It would be wrong to say that she lost her battle because she never stopped fighting. No matter how sick she was, Ellen was always determined. When anyone else would have broken, she stayed strong. Through her, we know what strength and grace, and resilience and faith truly are.

Ellen is survived by her husband, John Leth-Nissen; children Brian and Delaney Wagerle, Teresa and Timothy Strickland, Rachelle Leth-Nissen, Jessica and Eddie Hickinbotham, Julia Leth-Perez, and Elena and Cori Borjas; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; five brothers; and six sisters. She was predeceased by her parents, two brothers, and one sister. Family and friends may gather at 2 pm on Saturday, October 24 at the Benton Cemetery in Benton, KS for a graveside service to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, she requested that donations be made to the American Cancer Society. Please sign her online guestbook and leave a memory of Ellen at www.carlsoncolonial.com
