Sad News By Wire The unwelcome intelligence was received by relatives and friends in this city and Rosco, last Friday, of the death of Mr. Clinton J Gardner, which sad event occurred at his home in Utica, Illinois. Deceased was a well known Coshocton boy, and also resided in this city for several years, but had been a resident of Chicago and Utica, the latter being a suburb of the former city, during the past twenty years. He was a son of the late Samuel Gardner, and was very popular amond his young associates and the people generally here, on account of his sunny nature, accommodating spirit and kindly, courteous manner. He was possessed of considerable business ability, push, and enterprise. Locating in Chicago, where he had secured employment, he rapidly forged to the front, and at the time of his death had accumulated considerable wealth. Shortly after his marriage, which occurred in Chicago, he embarked in manufacturing at Utica, for several years past being a heavy stockholder in and the president of the Illinois Cement Works. As the president of the company he drew a salary of $5000 per year, and also realized heavily in dividends on his stock. His widowed mother and sister Kate, well know to most of our readers in this city and Roscoe, make their home at Utica. Mr. Gardner was fifty, two years of age, and his demise is sincerely deplored by many friends here.
