A near lifetime resident of Auburn, "Thad" was one of Lee County's best known and best loved citizens. He was born in
Tallapoosa County April 3, 1917, to Joseph and Myrtis Webster. As a small boy he moved with his family to a farm just west of Auburn on Highway 14. On graduating from Auburn City schools, he entered Auburn (Polytechnic Institute) in the late 1930's, majoring in Agricultural Education.

In January, 1942, after Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the Army. His tours of duty would take him to northern Africa, Italy, France and Belgium, to name a few. On June 6, 1944, he participated in the invasion of Normandy, landing on Utah Beach as a member of the Fourth Division, 22nd Infantry, under the command of General Omar Bradley. Subsequent to the invasion, he was minorly injured, landing him in the hospital in England. Later he would return to war as an M.P. His military service would earn him two Purple Hearts.

After the war he returned to Auburn, earning his degree with the intention of settling down to farming and teaching. In 1946 he married Imogene McLaughlin of Blue Springs, Alabama. Imogene passed away in 1966. A daughter Emily, passed away in 1976.

Thad was perhaps best known for his laid-back nature and colorful stories, of which he seemed to have an endless supply. He was also legendary for his love of Auburn football. From the end of World War II to the 1990's he never missed a home game.

He is survived by two brothers, Prince and Paul, both residents of Auburn. Surviving children include: Susan, a resident of Huntington Beach, California; Tommy, a resident of Auburn; Jim, a resident of Auburn; Bill and wife Susie, also residents of Auburn; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
