Frederick Newenham was a painter, based in London. His birth place is up for debate, some say Cork, some say England and his parents have not been confirmed. He painted historical and domestic subjects including "Cromwell dictating to Milton" (1850) as well as portraits, most notably Queen Victoria (1842). Between the years 1838 to 1885 Newenham contributed nineteen works to the Royal Academy and seventeen to the British Institution. It is clear Newenham battled a mental health problem as there were various incidents in the newspapers. Sadly in 1856 he was sent to Peckham House, an asylum, after an altercation in a shop and a trial where he showed signs of delusions. He died in 1859 in the Royal Bethlehem Hospital. His wife, Emma Wesley was the daughter of the composer Samuel Wesley.
