Funeral services were held from the Congregational church for John A. Attebury Sunday, his death having come Friday after being bedfast about five weeks. Death resulted from complications attendant with old age, he having attained the age of 87 years. Burial took place at the local cemetery.
The death of Mr. Attebury marked the first death in a family of nine children. He was born Nov. 4, 1837, in Logan county, Ill., and was married to Susan Ainstiger, the couple having observed its 65th wedding anniversary last March.
The children who remain to mourn the loss of their father and one of the community's first settlers include George, John and Mrs. Laura Mountjoy, of Atlanta, Ill., Mrs. Maggie Moraine, of Boone, Ia.; Mrs. Dora Murphy, of Eugene, Ore.; Frank and Will of Grant; and Mrs. Hattie Altensee and Mrs. Myrtle Bartlett of this place. Besides the widow a sister survives his death.
