Herbert D. Balsbaugh

PERU — Services for Herbert D. Balsbaugh, 85, of Kokomo, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home.

He died at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26, 2006, in Howard Regional Health System, Kokomo.

Born Nov. 9, 1920, in Cass County, he was the son of Henry A. and Ella Frances Bowman Balsbaugh. He was married June 6, 1942, in South Bend, to Donazetta Yankee, who preceded in death March 15, 2003.

A 1939 graduate of New Waverly High School, Mr. Balsbaugh retired from Chrysler Corporation in 1985. He was a school bus driver for Southeastern School Corporation from 1960 to 1970. He also was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. As a part of America's greatest generation, Herbert served during World War II. During his service in the Navy, his decorations included the Good Conduct Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon and Asiatic Pacific Ribbon.

Surviving are two daughters, Donita Conner and her husband, Glenn, Mexico, and Deborah Lynas and her husband, Robert, Galveston; one son, Lance Balsbaugh and his wife, Mary, Kokomo; one brother, Robert A. Balsbaugh, Peru; grandchildren, Bret Conner, Bart Conner, Deanna McCarter, Robin Rudd and Jeffery Payne; great-grandchildren, Kennedy Conner, Blaine Christopher Rudd and Keegan Conner.

One brother, Elbert, preceded in death in 1997, and one son, Larry, preceded in death in 1993.

Pastor Jeff Evans will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Ever-Rest Memorial Park.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Morning Star Church Building Fund.
