Dancer, Performer. She was a Chilean dancer, wife of folk musician Willy Oddó and mother to musician and singer Ismael Oddó. Born Rayén Méndez Ugarte, she graduated from the University of Chile. In 1959 she was promoted to prima ballerina of the Chilean National Ballet, directed by Ernst Uthoof, she was a member of the Popular Ballet, founded by Joan Turner de Jara and Patricio Bunster. Méndez shared her successful career as a dancer with teaching, giving classes at the Dance School, at the Pucará Ballet and the Aucamán Folkloric Group. In 1973, Méndez went into exile in France with her husband, Willy Oddó. Both had a son, Ismael, born on May 2, 1975, in Colombes. She was carrying out various dance projects at the time and stayed at France alongside her family for 16 years. She founded the LLAIMA Company of which she was director, choreographer and dancer, spreading her artistic work throughout France and the Netherlands. After returning to Chile, she worked as an assistant for revivals of Kurt Joos's leftovers with the Chilean National Ballet. As a teacher, she teached Modern Technique, Leeder Method at the Valero Professional Institute, the Arcis University Dance School, the University of Chile and the Modern Music School. At the age of 59, Rayen updated her dance studies, obtaining the Title of "Performer in Arts with a mention in Dance". In 1995 she was the founder of the Generación del Ayer Company where she worked as a choreographer and performer until 2001 when she decided to return to France. She passed away on April 19, 2006, at the age of 71.
