RIVERTON MAN IS VICTIM OF HEART FAILURE
Calvin Owen Derflinger, a well-known carpenter of the Riverton section of Warren County, died suddenly of heart failure, on Saturday morning in his home on Ridge Road, two miles northwest of Riverton.
He was born in Powell's Fort Valley, Shenandoah County, fifty-nine years ago, the son of William and Eliza Martin Derflinger, but his parents removed with him to the Riverton section of Warren County when he was two years old. He married Miss Ella Grimm (Graham), of Warren County, who survives with the following children: Mrs. Bertha Cameron, Front Royal; Mrs. Blanche Duncan, and Miss Mable Derflinger, Thomas M. Derflinger, Walter Derflinger, Henry Derflinger, James Derflinger and Calvin Derflinger, all of Riverton.
Mr. Derflinger also leaves the following brothers and sisters: Charles Derflinger, of Winchester; John Derflinger, of Middleburg; Wilson Derflinger, of Middletown; Mrs. Homer Turner, of Rockland; Mrs. Harry Warren, of Hanover, Pennsylvania; and Mrs. "Buddy" Gardner, of Armeltown.
Mr. Derflinger was an excellent workman, and did plumbing work in addition to carpentry. He was employed for many years by J. W. Morgan, of Riverton.
For twenty years he was employed by the Town of Front Royal as an operator of the hydroelectric plant at Riverton, and during this long period of service was absent from his duties only four days.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 Monday afternoon in his late home, conducted by Rev. Frank F. Neel. Interment was in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were William Grove, Berkeley Steed, S. Byrne Downing, Sr., S. D. Boyd, John Williams, and Emmett Ewing.
