BANGOR – James J. Brown Sr., 64, died May 16, 2004, at a local healthcare facility. He was born Dec. 10, 1939, in Presque Isle, the son of Carl and Frances (Foster) Brown. While growing up in Presque Isle, he attended area schools. He was well known as the Pizza King of Presque Isle. While attending high school he moved to Bangor in 1962, and worked for Miller's Restaurant for seven years. His experience took him to Eastern Maine Medical Center, where he was the head chef for 21 years. He served in the Maine Army National Guard for 30 years, attending active schools for cooking then started his National Guard career with Battery A, 152nd Artillery of Presque Isle, and then several other units in the state of Maine such as Fort Fairfield, Portland, and Brewer. Most of his time was spent with the 112th Medical Co. of Bangor. He is survived by his three children, Peter P. Brown and his wife, Jennifer, of Bangor, James J. Brown Jr. and his wife, Jennifer, of Bangor, Maxine and her husband, Curt Bruton, of Corinth; one brother, Carl Brown of Presque Isle; 12 grandchildren; and six nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his former wife, Nancy C. Brown; his sisters, Mary Gardner and Roberta Barrett. Funeral services will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. Friends may call from 6 p.m. until time of the service.
