Opal Brown Barfield, 89, of Greenville, widow of Rufus Barfield, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007.

She was a daughter of the late Annie and Paul C. Brown. Mrs. Barfield was a faithful member of Judson Pentecostal Church since 1951, where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was employed by Stylecrafters/Plott's, where she retired after 32 years. Her proudest accomplishment was the caring for three generations of family including children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are her four children, Paul Barfield and wife, Linda, Billy Barfield and wife, Sara, Larry Barfield and wife, Dianne, and Anne Brown and son-in-law, Kenneth Brown; eight grandchildren, Tracy Smith, Stacy George, Gregg Barfield, Missy Mattison, Rena Holbert, Justin Barfield, Michael Brown and Lori Whitfield; nine great-grandchildren, Adam Barfield, Paul George, Nicole Mattison, Zachary Mattison, Shea Mattison, Ashley Holbert, Katie Holbert, Grant Chapman and Emma Brown; three sisters, Grace Elrod, Mary Holland and Valeria Talley; a brother-in-law, Harbin Talley; and sister-in-law, Lula Brown.

She was predeceased by a brother, Reubin Brown.
