In 1948 she tragically lost her first husband Michael Langford Baker in Esperance, Western Australia, when a king wave washed him off the rocks at Twilight Cove while he was fishing. Gloria was left a young widow living in Norseman, WA with her infant 3mth old baby, Langford John Baker.
In 1953 she married again to widower James Alexander Thomson, James had two sons, Geoffrey Alexander 9yrs and Kenneth Patrick 3yrs. They would go onto have two more children, Christine Mary and Robert James.
