Dorothy Dunaway Garvin Gross, a long-time resident of Tyler, died peacefully Tuesday the 25th of October at home surrounded by her loving family.
Born in 1920 in Oklahoma City, OK to Frank S. Dunaway and Holland Smith Dunaway, Dorothy was also known as mother, mom, Mema, friend, neighbor and confidant. She was a strong willed, kind, generous lady who loved all people and truly lived a life full of love and laughter.
Dorothy graduated from Oklahoma City Jr. College and worked using her talents in many ways, from aiding in the war effort, dental hygienist, beauty salon owner/operator, Red Cross and payroll processing. Her most notable talent was her love for everyone she encountered. Dorothy didn't know a stranger and made everyone feel loved and cared for. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed gardening, mahjong, fishing, skeet shooting, clogging and bowling. Dorothy had many special neighbors and friends and will certainly be missed by all.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Frank Dunaway Jr., and spouses Knox L. Garvin, Jr. and Ralph Gross.
She is survived by her 3 children, as well as 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
