Uriah Mihills

URIAH D. MIHILLS, one of the oldest residents in this city, died yesterday at the age of 80 years. The funeral was held at 2 o’clock this afternoon, interment taking place at Rienzi.

Mr. Mihills was born in Canada, May 7, 1818, and moved to Wisconsin in 1854, settling in Dodge County. A year after he moved to Hartford, Wis., where he engaged in farming and in the lumber business. Ten years later he moved to Fond du Lac and interested himself in lumbering and manufacturing until 1874, at that time retiring from business.

He held the office of member of the board of supervisors of Essex County, N. Y. He was appointed member of the Fond du Lac County Board by Gov. Fairchild in 1866. In 1870 he was elected alderman from the Fifth Ward of this city and made chairman of the county board. He was elected assemblyman in the fall of 1869 and was reelected twice, filling out three terms.

September 12, 1839, Mr. Millis married Miss Caroline Partridge of Essex, N.Y., who has passed away within the past few years. To them were born nine children—Persia A., now Mrs. Johnson of this city, Myra J., now Mrs. Temby of Dallas, Tex.; Gwen N., of this city; Frances C., now Mrs. Bishop of Kansas City, Mo.; Uriah D. Jr.; Emma M.; Norris D.; W. William and Lillian.

Uriah Dimond Mihills, one of Fond du Lac’s oldest residents, died yesterday morning, aged 80 years. He had been an invalid for several years. Mr. Mihills had been identified with the public affairs of the city and had occupied many positions of responsibility.
