Quayle Cannon Jr. age 84, died Tuesday August 28, 1990 in Bountiful, Utah following a brief illness.
Born July 5, 1906 in Salt Lake City to Quayle and Eugenia Silver Cannon. Married Dorothy Fay Allred April 10, 1936 in Washington D.C.; the marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple June 30, 1936. She died June 27, 1969. He married Lanor Hailstone Rowe June 18, 1971 in Salt Lake City. Active in the LDS Church, he served as a missionary in the Swiss-German Mission from 1926-1929. He held many positions in the Church including: Mia President, Sunday School Superintendent and High Councilor in the Ensign Stake. He graduated from the University of Utah in 1933 with a major in German and taught German in the Salt Lake City School District. In 1935, moved to Washington D.C. where he was employed by the Federal Housing Administration. Returned to Salt Lake City and, for a time, worked for Kennecott Copper Corp. In 1942 he began a career as a life insurance agent working for many years with Occidental Life. He was an active and loyal member of the Republican Party and was elected to the Utah House of Representatives for two terms. He was appointed Secretary of the Utah State Senate and served many years in that capacity. Quayle was a master gardener and loved to work in his yard.
He is survived by his wife of Bountiful; sons and daughters: Donald Q. and his wife JoAnn, Orem, Utah; Keith A. and his wife Stephanie, Salt Lake City; Mrs Emanuele (Patricia Fay) Turco, Rome, Italy; Charles A. and his wife Claudia, McLean, Virginia and Mrs Scott (Christine) Cameron, Provo, Utah. 19 Grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Orson S. Cannon, North Logan, Utah; A. Weldon Cannon, Woodburn, Oregon; Mrs V. Blaine (Amanda) Anderson, Salt Lake City; Mrs Don L. (Edith) Lillywhite, Pine, Arizona; Mrs Lester (Norine) Flake of Mesa, Arizona; Mrs Hugh (Beth) Brand, Salt Lake City and Mrs Lynn (Merle) Holmgren, Bear River City, Utah; step-children, Mr and Mrs Robert Rowe, Provo, Utah; Mrs Betty Christensen and Mrs Lenard (Kathy) Wright both of Bountiful
