According to Mary Ellen Howe, author of three volumes of "Richard Bailey," Greenville was probably the biological son of Elijah P. Bailey and Elizabeth Bailey. [Source: "Richard Bailey," Vol. II, page 485 and Vol. III, page 522.] However, Larry Harman (FAG #48326604) states that Andrew was the last child born to Elizabeth Bailey and Alexander "Alem" Hager.
Andrew enlisted into "H" Company, Virginia 60th Infantry, CSA on July 4, 1861 in Princeton, WV.
He married Nancy Wimmer, who was a midwife. They eventually separated. Green was very musical and played the fiddle for Saturday night dances.

"Death claimed one of Mercer County's lifelong and best known residents yesterday, when Green Hager passed to his reward at 4 p.m. at his home, 1729 East Princeton Ave. Mr. Hager had been in failing health for sometime, and for the last ten months had been bedfast. His condition had been critical for the last six weeks. Death was expected for sometime. Mr. Hager was in his eighty-eighth year. He was born only a mile or more distant from the Bluefield-Princeton gap, and had lived in this immediate section his entire life. He was a gallant Confederate Veteran and served the full four years of that conflict under Capt. Hale. He was wounded in the battle of Cloyd's Farm. The deceased was possibly one of the best known citizens of Mercer County. For four years he served as county overseer of the poor and performed his duties well. He was a kind-hearted man, a Christian gentleman and had the respect of everyone who knew him. He had been a consistent member of the Christian Church since he was 20 years of age. When 17 years old, he married Miss Nancy Wimmer, and to this union six children were born, five of whom survive. His wife preceded him to the grave eight years ago. His living children are: Henderson B. and Samuel H. Hager, both of Littlesburg; B.J. Hager of Ada; Mrs. George Gray of Bluefield; Mrs. M.E. Coeburn of Sand Lick. Services will be this afternoon at 1 o'clock at the New Hope Church, conducted by Rev. John Wimmer. The remains will then be taken to the home of Samuel H. Hager near Littlesburg where he will be buried in the family plot."
