A drum major in the war of the revolution, and served at different periods from the commencement of the war in 1775, to the close of the same. His granddaughter often heard him say that he was in the battle of Bunkerhill, was at Ticonderoga, and at the taking of Burgoyne and at other places, and in the other service which she no longer remembered. But she remembers seeing his discharge, and his warrant as Drum Major. At the battle of Bunker Hill, he received a contusion on his head, which affected him at times during his life.

April 6, 1774, married Hannah Griffin at Tewksbury, Massachusetts.

April 19, 1775 fought at Lexington as a "Minuteman" with Captain Trull's Company, Colonel Bridge's Regiment. Later served with Captain Walker's Company, Colonel Bridge's Regiment, as a drummer.

Wounded at the Battle of Bunker Hill (Breeds Hill), and his pension papers (Vermont #4762) show he was at "Bunker Hill, Ticonderoga, and the taking of (General) Burgoyne".

Phineas was a joiner by trade. Moved to Thetford, Vermont circa 1783, with his wife and family. He is not listed in the 1790 census, but in 1800 his family consisted of 4 sons (names unknown) and 4 daughters 1 unknown, Caty, Judith and Hannah.

Passed away at Thetford and is buried near "Child's Pond" in this cemetery.
