Susan married James Galbreath 15 Oct 1896; she divorced him 22 Nov 1897. After the divorce, James Galbreath sued Susan's mother Sarah, accusing her of turning Susan against him. The jury found for Susan's mother.


After selling her 160 acres of land holdings in Hendricks County and making multiple trips to California between 1912 and 1914, she moved their permanently in March 1915 with her companion Vandorah "Dora" Martin (Memorial ID 36136648 ).
