Marion attended local schools where he graduated from East Bakersfield High School and Bakersfield College. He married Elizabeth Gregg on August 23, 1952 - the day after Bakersfield's big earthquake of 1952. Together they had three children Kevin, Eric and Robin.
Marion worked in the title insurance business for over fifty years. He has been referred to as the "Legend" in the title insurance business. He spent those fifty years working for Kern County Title Company, Transamerica and Ticor. He retired from First American Title Company. He enjoyed serving the Builders Exchange, BIA, Kiwanis and North of the River Chamber of Commerce. It was during the 1980s that Marion was voted as one of the "Best Dressed" men in Bakersfield.
He grew up attending Calvary Baptist Church and went on the be a member of several local Baptist churches and most recently Parkside Church. Some of his greatest joys serving at church were working with youth, teaching Sunday School, serving on the deacon board and singing in the choir.
Marion considered his family his greatest blessing. He enjoyed family outings such as camping from the mountains to the beach, trips to Dewar's (always ordering George's Special), Friday night dinners at Panda Palace and cooking breakfast on the 4th of July - a tradition that still continues today.
He is survived by his wife of almost sixty-two years, Betty, son Kevin (Rose), son Eric (Monique), daughter Robin Tiner (Paul), and grandchildren Jon (Lydia), Jordan (Cole), Joel, Melissa, Rachael (Todd), Kim (Mike), Megan (Aaron), Amanda (James), and Rebecca. He also had four-step-grandchildren Jared, Kyle (Dianne), and Rachel. He also had nine great-grandchildren.
Marion was preceded in death by his parents and a brother and a sister.
"II Timothy 4:7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."
A celebration of Marion's life will be on Thursday, July 10, 2014, 11:00am, at Parkside Church, 2515 Church Avenue.
