John W. Carter, 65, died on October 2, 2020 at his home in Monticello, IN.

He was born on November 25, 1954 in Logansport, IN to the late Floyd Clinton Carter Sr and Lavetta Mae (Johnson) Carter. On October 12, 1990 in Monticello, IN, he married Linda L. Meyer; she passed away on May 20, 2014.

John had lived in the Monticello, area most of his life and was a 1974 graduate of Twin Lakes High School. After graduating from high school, John entered the United States Marine Corp and served his country well. He was a sergeant and was decorated with a Rifle Expert Badge (3rd Award), Good Conduct Medal, Letter of Appreciation and the National Defense Service Medal. John was a life time member of the Monticello American Legion Post #81. He bowled in the Men’s Monday and Wednesday Leagues and the Sunday Mixed League. John bowled a 299 twice in his lifetime. He attended multiple state bowling championship games. John enjoyed golfing with his buddies. He also enjoyed teaching his children and grandchildren to play pool, throwing bags and horse shoes. He enjoyed hosting family gathering around the bonfire. John was a Purdue University sports fan, watching NASCAR and golf. He was known to always help everybody and anybody.

John is survived by four children; nine grandchildren; three sisters; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother, Floyd Clinton Carter Jr; and granddaughter, Sierra Wireman.

Visitation will be from12:00 noon to 3:00 PM on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at Lake Shafer Christian Center. Pastor Nate Pyle of the Lake Shafer Christian Center will officiate. Burial, with full military rites by the Monticello Veterans Honor Guard, will be in IOOF Riverview Cemetery.
