Neil J. Brodsgar, San Rafael real estate appraiser, died yesterday in a local hospital after a long illness. He was 64.

A native of Oakland, Brodsgar lived in the East Bay until he moved to Marin County 21 years ago.

The family home is at 131 Blackstone Drive, Marinwood.

He had long been involved in real estate and had been an appraiser for about 15 years, having his own office in San Rafael.

He was a past president of the Marin County Real Estate board and had been a member of the Marin Development Foundation and the San Rafael Chamber of Commerce.

He was also a member of the American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers and belonged to Masonic organizations, Islam Temple; Mill Valley Lodge No. 356 Free and Accepted Masons; Royal Arch Masons of California, Chapter 108; and Knights Templar No. 73.

He was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church of Terra Linda.

He is survived by his wife Audrey Brodsgar, of the family home; a daughter, Karen A. Coates of Novato; his father George E. Brodsgar of San Rafael, and a grandchild.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. tomorrow at Keaton's Mortuary, San Rafael. Burial will be in Mt. Tamalpais Cemetery.
