Don, 79, a life-long resident of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on September 28, 2020, at home with his loving family at his side. He was born on January 6, 1941 to Alice (Ringer) and Donald Hollenback who preceded him in death. Don's loving sister, Patricia Bird, also preceded him in death.

He graduated from Broad Ripple High School in 1959 and soon after married his high school sweetheart, Janet. They were blessed with three children: Don, Dan and Denise, along with 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Don and Janet divorced after 40 years of marriage, but remained close friends over the years. After his marriage ended, Don met the sweetest, most kind-hearted companion, Janice Young. Janice was by his side for over 22 years until he passed. He not only was blessed by her love, he had the privilege to be loved by her four children: Jackie Dean, Theresa Griggs, David Young, and Denise Rohn, along with 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Don loved spending time with his brother in law, Jim and his wife, Joy, and his nieces, Linda (Tom) Brinkman, Beth (Ralph)Watson and his nephew, Jim (Lynn) Bird and their families.

He cherished his time with his family and his friends. He especially enjoyed returning to have lunch at Eli Lilly and Company where he shared found memories with his retired Lilly colleagues who spanned a 30-year career.

Don's passion was helping others. His favorite bible verse was: John 15:13 - Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends.

Throughout his life he enjoyed doing anything that provided a service to others. He had a passion for cars, coins and attending auctions. He was a member of the Sahara Grotto, a lifetime member of Scottish Rite and an active member at Millersville Lodge #126.

A few weeks before he passed, he shared the following words that capture his life from his viewpoint….
"I had a wonderful career at Eli Lilly for 30 years. When I retired, I enjoyed working for Eye Specialists of Indiana where I had the opportunity to drive patients and meet many wonderful people. I have a love for cars, so I also drove for various dealerships during my retirement years.

Jan and I have been together for 22 wonderful years and I'm still friends with my ex-wife, so I must be doing something right.

I believe that we get out of life what we put into it. I have helped a lot of people in different ways. I have had a lot of people who did me dirty, but I have learned to forgive. I have always tried to turn the other cheek. I grew up in the church. I was not perfect, but I tried to be good to people. I believe that we must live our faith. I got my reward by helping people, as money cannot replace good deeds.

God gives us what we need. It all belongs to him. My whole life I have tried to be good to people.

I have been blessed to work with good people and have a lot of good friends. I could not have asked for better children, grand-children and friends. I have done a lot and helped a lot of people and I stand tall. Love everyone."

Services entrusted to Flanner Buchanan - Washington Park North, 2706 Kessler Blvd West Drive, with burial at Washington Park North Cemetery.
