Margaret Sanko Livesay, a Bensalem resident for the past 56 years, died peacefully in her sleep early Friday morning at Chandler Hall Hospice in Newtown. She and her family had celebrated her 96th birthday May 18, 2011.

Born at Hobbie, Luzerne County, Pa., the second of nine children of John and Mary Beckley Sanko, she grew up in Grier City, Pa., and graduated from Mahanoy City High School in 1932. Throughout her life, she maintained an avid interest in her Slovak-American heritage.

During World War II, she served in the U.S. Navy WAVES Hospital Corps stationed in Jacksonville, Fla., providing physical therapy for the wounded from the Pacific battle zones.

She and her husband, the late Hugh Kyle Livesay, moved to Bensalem in 1955, one of the original homeowners of Nottingham Village, where she resided for 56 years.

When her youngest child entered school, she returned to the work force, helping children as a library aide at Faust Elementary School and Bensalem High School. She was an active member of parent-teacher associations at her children's schools.

She and Hugh were charter members of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Bensalem, where she loved singing in the choir, and the fellowship of church service activities.

She genuinely loved being with people and knew how to draw them out. 'Always the first in and last out,' her husband was often heard to comment as he waited for her in the church's parking lot Sunday mornings.

Her family was always at the center of her life and remained close as she shared her enthusiasm for family history, classical and sacred music, political biographies, C-SPAN and the Philadelphia Phillies.

She was an old-fashioned mom and grandmom--never wanting a dishwasher, garbage disposal, clothes dryer-- enjoying all the 'chores' of making a home.

She will be greatly missed by her four daughters, Mary Ellen Livesay of Bensalem, Nancy Resch and husband, Peter, of Bensalem, Susan Livesay of Philadelphia, and Karen Blank of Langhorne; her son, Hugh Kyle Livesay Jr. of Warwick; five grandchildren, Alexandra Resch of Washington D.C., Stephen Senatore and wife, Sharon, of Willow Grove, Ingrid Manning, and husband, Jack, of Ruckersville, Va., Andrew Senatore of Philadelphia, and Alyssa Blank of Atlanta, Ga.; two great-grandsons, Logan Senatore and Gabriel Manning. She also is survived by her beloved brother, Robert Sanko and his wife, Betty, of Tonawanda, N.Y.; and 44 nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing at 10 a.m., Thursday, June 16, at Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3900 Hulmeville Road, Bensalem, followed by services at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Rosedale Cemetery.
