Mary Emmaline Lawhorn Checotah, Oklahoma July 30, 1927 - September 29, 2020
Mary Emmaline Lawhorn, 93 years, was a lifetime resident of McIntosh County. She entered into eternal life on Tuesday, September 29, 2020. Mary was born on Saturday, July 30, 1927 in Porum, OK to Louis Claude Callison and Lucy (Frazier) Callison. Mary attended Carcreek Grade School and later Checotah High School. The students there called her the girl with the “Ipana” smile. In her 19th year, she met and married the love of her life Lawrence Lawhorn of Checotah, on Wednesday, December 4, 1946. Mary was a stay at home mom, who loved and cared for her children, while working alongside her husband on the farm, raising cattle and gardens. She was a great cook, and most everyone loved her pies, especially the crust. Occasionally she substituted for Shady Grove School. Mary loved raising flowers, playing Gospel music on the piano and going to church. She will be remembered for singing “Beautiful Star of Bethlehem” at Christmas and “Middle Man” at Easter. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Lawhorn; her father, Louis Callison; her mother, Lucy Callison; her brothers, William, Bud, Walter, Clarence, Cecil and Jimmy, all from California; her sisters, Lena Landagin, Velma Trollinger, Geneva Wallace and Veda Kemmer, all from California; her son-in-law, Rick Brewer of Shawnee, OK and her great-great granddaughter, Kenadee Huffman of Tulsa, OK. She is lovingly survived by one brother, Marvin Callison from California; her sons, Don Lawhorn and his wife Marion, Rocky Lawhorn and his wife Lisa; her daughters, Janice and her husband Harlen Todd and Patsy Brewer all from Checotah. Mary is also survived by her 10 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces and friends. The family of Mary Emmaline Lawhorn entrusted her care, services, and burial to John & Kim Garrett and the dedicated staff of Garrett Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service 311 SW 2nd Checotah, OK 74426 (918) 473-2244.
