He received the Eagle Scout rank of Boy Scouts in 1949. He graduated from Shortridge High School and attended Indiana University where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. He married Barbara Johanningsmeier on September 23, 1967, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He worked as a Senior Planner/Scheduler for Union Carbide Corporation for 20 years and retired in 1985. As a young man, he enjoyed owning and running a Christmas tree farm with his father. For the last 55 summers, he enjoyed spending time at Cordry Lake with family and friends.
George is preceded in death by his parents, brother John Jackson Brake, and sister Julia Brake Jackson.
He is survived by his wife Barbara Brake, son John Jackson Brake “Jack”, daughter-in-law Stormi Murphy Brake, and granddaughters Mia Brake and Kaitlyn Brake.
Visitation will be from 12:00 to 1:30 Friday, October 2, 2020, at Gothic Chapel, Crown Hill Cemetery followed by a graveside service which will be held at Crown Hill Cemetery, arrangements by Crown Hill.
