Mr. Johnston, born in Salina, Kans., in 1866, came to the Cherokee Outlet in '93 from Hackney, Kans.; he staked his claim between Blackwell and the present location of the Prairie Chapel Church.
He remained on his farm until 1947 when he moved to Blackwell; as an early day settler in that section of the county Mr. Johnston played an important part in the establishment and growth of the Prairie Chapel Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Dora Johnston, of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Bertha Spence, Upland, Calif.; Mrs. Pauline Mantsch, Mantua, Ohio, and Mrs. Nedra Kiser, Blackwell; six sons, Walter, ponca City; Roy, Blackwell; Ed, Braman; Victor, West Lake, La.; Paul, Kaw City, and Fred, Long Beach, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Lottie Smith, Blackwell, and two brothers, Harry, Portland, Ore., and Omar, Albuquerque, N.M.
