NB Courier, Sat 08 Jul 1837: "m. Saturday eve, by Rev. A. McNutt, Zacharias ADAMS / Miss Mary CHAPMAN, all of Portland parish (St. John Co.)."

Mary Chapman Adams d 1866. After her death, Zachariah married Mary Ann Mountjoy in 1868 per the Saint John County marriage bond records. The newspaper account give her last name as Fanjoy, but their son Zachariah's death certificate confirms the name Mountjoy.

Saint John Globe, Sat 25 May 1895: "Zachariah R. ADAMS, an old citizen of Carleton, died suddenly at an early hour this morn. He was in the 82nd year of his age and lately has been in the best of health. He arose about 5 o'clock this morn. and called his son, after which he retired again for a nap. About 6 o'clock his wife arose and called him. Receiving no answer she went to him and found him dead. Mr. Adams was a s/o Josiah ADAMS who was born in Portland in 1791. Of his four brothers, Josiah ADAMS, Nathaniel ADAMS, John ADAMS and Alexander ADAMS, the latter two are living in California. Mr. Adams was twice married and six sons and two daughters survive him. One of the latter is Mrs. Edward WILLIS widow of the postmaster of St. John. One son is in Chicago, one in Boston and one in the public service here. He entered the lumber business in Carleton when quite a young man and for a time was in partnership with the late A.C.A. SALTER. In the year 1854 he built the first mill in Carleton on the site of the old Dunn mill. In 1870 he went into partnership with Messrs. Jewett and Dunn and continued with them till their mill was burned in 1891. He then retired from active service. The funeral is announced for this afternoon."

Saint John Daily Telegraph, Mon 27 May 1895: "d. St. John West, May 25th, of heart failure, Zachariah R. ADAMS, age 81 years. Funeral Monday 2:30 o'clock from his residence 157 Winslow St."

Saint John Daily Sun, Mon 27 May 1895: "The death of Zachariah R. ADAMS occurred suddenly Saturday morn. Mr. Adams was in his 82nd year, though during the past year his memory began to show some impairment. Still he was about the streets daily and on the eve. before his death bright and hearty. He arose early Saturday as was his custom and called his son. He retired again, and on his wife calling him and receiving no answer she went to his room and found that he had slept away. The deceased was a s/o Josiah ADAMS and Sarah ROBERTS who had a numerous family. Besides deceased, there were Josiah, Nathaniel, John, Alexander and Mrs. JORDAN, all of whom are now dead except, John and Alexander who are in Caliornia. The deceased was twice married and by his first wife, Miss Maria CHAPMAN of Portland, he had six children, Frederick ADAMS, Robert C. ADAMS, Thomas H. ADAMS, Wm A. ADAMS, Mrs. Edward WILLIS and Mrs. SMITH of Halifax. By his second wife, Miss FANJOY, there are two children, Richard ADAMS and Zachariah ADAMS and she survives him. He was many years ago in partnership with A.C.A. Salter in the milling business and afterwards with Messrs. Jewett and Dunn. More recently he was in business with J.A. Gregory and it is not long since the affairs of this business was wound up. His funeral takes place today."
