Paris, Texas, March 15 - News of a fatal accident that occurred near the village of Atlas, eleven miles south of here, reached this city yesterday. Bettie Hobbs, an estimable young lady of eighteen years, was burned to death. Charles Hobbs, a worthy farmer, had given his daughters a piece of ground near the house for a cotton patch and they were steaming up and burning the stalks when the unfortunate girl's dress caught fire and she was so terribly burned before help reached her that she died an hour later.
