David C. Jones Dies -- Was Former Resident.
The death of David C. [Cooper] Jones of Philadelphia, Pa. who was one time resident of this section occurred last week at a daughter's home in Philadelphia. Mr. Jones was born in [Penrhiw], South Wales 79 years ago and spent the years of his early manhood there. He married Miss Elizabeth Davies also a native of South Wales and later emigrated to this country with his wife and family. He settled in this section where he lived for a few years. When he left here he went to Carbondale Pa and entered the mining field. His wife died 46 years ago and several years later Mr. Jones married Mrs. David Davis of Scranton. Mr. Jones had been ailing this summer but had been confined to his bed only ten days. He is survived by the following children by his first marriage: Mrs. [Jane] Samuel McCauley and Mrs [Eunice] John Hadley of Philadelphia; Mrs [Elizabeth] Thomas Phillips and Timothy Jones of Carbondale; Mrs Margaret Ennis of Kingston and Gomer Jones of Richville; 14 grandchildren, one great grandchild and brother Thomas Jones of Copenhagen and two sisters of South Wales. He was a member of the Welsh Congregational church at Hyde Park, Scranton. Funeral services were conducted Oct. 27 at his son's home in Carbondale with burial at Willow View Cemetery, Carbondale.
