Melvin Charles Baleme a native of Merced was born to James and Zilpha Baleme on August 17, 1927. He passed away February 16, 2006 at the age of 78. Mel worked for over 30 years as a heavy equipment operator in construction. He loved the outdoors. He enjoyed camping, boating and fishing. Mel was a great fan of the San Francisco Giants and the 49ers. He was a member of the Merced Eagles Club, the Merced Elks Lodge and Operating Engineer Local #3. Mel was loved and will be greatly missed by family and friends. Preceded in death by his first wife Birdie and his wife Toadie, his parents, four brothers and a sister, he is survived by stepdaughters, Dee Munoz and her husband Joe and Vicky Chavez and her husband Larry. He has four step- grandsons and 6 great step-grandchildren. He is also survived by nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 21, 2006 from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Whitton Family Funeral Service, 740 W. 19th St. in Merced. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 22, 2006 at 1:00 P.M. at Calvary Assembly of God church, 1021 "R" St. In Merced. Burial will follow at Merced District Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Whitton Family Funeral Service.
