Jerry Nelson Coan, 76, passed away on September 15, 2020. He will truly be missed by family and friends. He was born October 29, 1943 in Union County to the late C.J. “Buss” Coan and Mary “Granny” Coan.
Jerry honorably served his country with the United States Army in Vietnam. Although he would rarely talk about his service, you could always find him proudly wearing his Vietnam Veteran hat. He believed in service to his country and service to his community. He always thanked other veterans for their service and would also take the opportunity to thank Police Officers and tell them to “Be Safe” when he saw them.
Many knew Jerry from his time working with Bob Mayberry. He enjoyed his job and loved talking with his co-workers and customers. He was a hard worker and was the guy that was always at work early. Jerry would always say “if you were on time you were late and if you were early you were on time”. He believed in the value of a hard day’s work and that the only thing you were entitled to was what you worked for. It was that same work ethic that he instilled in his children.
Jerry is loved by his family and he went by many names. He was called Pops, Paw Paw, Mr. Jerry, Dad and Daddy. He loved his family and always enjoyed a visit or call from them. He loved to text his family in the mornings to tell them to have a great day and that he loved them. Jerry also loved being outside and working in the yard. You could always find him mowing his yard or a neighbor’s or just sitting on his porch enjoying the sun.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Allen Coan; sons, Bryan Coan (Teresa), Mark Coan (DeAnne) and Steve Coan; step-son, Nick Evans; step-daughter, Nicolle Hope; grandchildren, Ashley Coan, Alyssa Malone, Lidia Coan, Caleb Coan, Trevor Hope, Madison Hope and Evie Evans; and great-grandchildren, Ayla Dermid and Bryson Dermid.
