She was born Feb. 12, 1937, in Detroit Lakes, the daughter of Ernest and Verna (Markwardt) Trobec. She moved with her family to the Grand Rapids area in 1948. She graduated from Greenway High School in 1955. She married Willie Thoennes June 11, 1955, in Bovey. They lived in the LaPrairie area where she helped her husband operate their bulk milk hauling business. They moved to the Palisade area in 1984. She was active in the Palisade community serving as chairwoman for the Winter Festival and past president of the Palisade Suppersledders. Following her husband's death in 1991, she moved to Proctor and worked as a secretary for the AMPI of Duluth. She married James Stafford July 8, 1995, and the couple made their home in the Fleming Lake area. She had worked most recently for the Palisade Mercantile and also had done some work out of her home. She had served as a Girl Scout leader and was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters.
She is survived by her husband, James Stafford, Aitkin; a son, Pat Thoennes, Palisade; three daughters, Teresa Heikkila, Grand Rapids, Toni Huber, Olympia, Wash., and Mary Witte, Grand Rapids; a brother, Bill Trobec, Coleraine; three stepsons, Jay Stafford, Fort Huachucha, Ariz., Lee Stafford, Anchorage, Alaska, and Terry Stafford, Stillwater; three stepdaughters, Susan Fielen, Kingman, Ariz., Kimberly Stafford, Oklahoma, and Jeannie Olson, state of Wyoming; seven grandchildren and 11 stepgrandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her first husband, Wilfred, in 1991, her mother, Verna, in 1993 and her father, Ernest, in 1998.
Funeral: Tuesday, Jan. 19, at 1:30 p.m. at Solid Rock Church of God, Grand Rapids, with the Rev. Charles Carlson officiating.
Burial: Lakeview Cemetery, Coleraine.
