Eva Jane Applewhite was the oldest child of John Augustus Applewhite and Julia Lily Robinson Applewhite. She married William Preston Smith on December 28, 1901 in Ardmore, Chicasaw Nation, Indian Territory. She had two children and had difficulty with both deliveries. The first child a girl, Ida Faye, lived only two months. The second child, Claud Preston, lived, however Eva Jane never recovered from that delivery and became very ill. The family took her to Anadarko, from their home in Marlow, to receive medical help. However the doctor's at that time could not save her life. She was buried in the Anadarko Cemetery, now known as Memory Lane.
