Nathaniel Jr. received only a frontier education, and was employed on the home farm until his majority; he then worked out for about five years, then farmed his father's place on shares several years, and in 1833 came to Big Creek Township, and entered 160 acres. In 1867, he relinquished work and came to Reynolds, where he resided in retirement. Dec. 29, 1831 he married Susanna Runyan, who bore him ten children: Abraham, Nathaniel, John N., Esther, Thomas, Sophie, Nancy, Rachel, Stephen, and Eliza. After Susanna died in 1873, he then married Mrs. Mary A (Bartlett-Buchanan) McNealey.
