Alice Joyce England O'Connor, 93, of Pocatello, passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 in Pocatello. She was born Jun 15, 1924 in Moreland, Idaho, the daughter of Elmer John William (Jack) and Alice Viola Crump England. She went to school in Jerome, Robin and Arimo and graduated in 1942. She taught school in Hawkins Basin 1945-1947. During World War II she worked at the shipyards in Bremerton, Washington as a "Rosie the Riveter" and transferred to the Pocatello Air Base when her mother became ill so she would be nearby to help her. She was always a great help to her mother.
Joyce married Patrick Coleman O'Connor on June 23, 1949 in Pocatello. She worked at the Pocatello Creameries as a bookkeeper. Joyce and Pat also managed her brother Larry's apartments while he was in the Korean Conflict. She attended beauty school at ISU and had a shop in her home. She was also employed as a manager at Rhoads. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was a member of the LDS church. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.
Joyce is survived by daughter Michele (Bruce) Olsen of Pocatello and son Shaun (Sherry) O'Connor of Island Park; granddaughters Alyssa (Eric) Hancock and Erin Olsen; and also Casey Roberts, Megan Roberts and Mikhayla Hendricks as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Pat, her parents, and her brother Larry England. She will be greatly missed by her family, neighbors and friends.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 PM on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at Downard Funeral Home, 241 North Garfield Ave., Pocatello. Friends may visit with Joyce's family on Monday, March 12, 2018 from 6:30 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial following in the Mountain View Cemetery.
