ARROYO GRANDE-John Foster, Jr. 83 died Oct. 11, 1989, at his home in Arroyo Grande.
Cremation has taken place at the Arroyo Grande Valley Crematory operated by Wood-Voakes Mortuary with private inurnment at the Arroyo Grande District cemetery.
Mr. Foster was a native of Bisbee, Ariz., born June 16, 1906, the son of John Foster and Florence Irene (Sampson) Foster, and he was a journalism professor at Columbia University for some 10 years. He won two Fullbright awards and traveled worldwide to select students to attend the university. He lectured twice at the University of Rome.
He is survived by a sister, Florence C. Rust of Arroyo Grande; his sister-in-law Mrs. Ray Foster of Morro Bay and many nieces and nephews.
