He was a Methodist Episcopal "ME" Minister for the Morganton Circuit of old Burke Co., NC which is now Red Hill, Mitchell Co., NC. County lines changed several times during the lifetime of Elisha. His 640 acre farm was always in the Red Hill area of now Mitchell.

1840 Yancey Co, NC Census (this are became Mitchell)
1850, Yancey Co., NC Census - Methodist preacher, and owned land valued at $1500 (this area became Mitchell)
1860 , Red Hill P.O. Yancey Co., NC (this area became Mitchell)
1870 widower living in the household of Thomas Butler Garland. Red Hill Twnship, Mitchell Co., NC
Died 1875 Mitchell County, North Carolina.
Most likely buried at the Garland Cemetery in Red Hill where his parents and some of his children are buried. When his father died, estate records show that he took over his father's house which is not far from the cemetery.
