It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David James Eremko of Nipawin, on August 30, 2020, at the age of 66. David was born on June 19, 1954 in Nipawin, SK. After completing high school there in 1972, David attended the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, where he received degrees in Arts and Law.

During the summers, David worked for his uncle on construction in Edmonton, and for CP Rail as a welder’s helper on the tracks in Alberta and Saskatchewan. He commuted to and from his work sites by motorcycle.

After graduating from University, David traded his Honda Gold Wing motorcycle for a car in order to work as a realtor in Saskatoon. In 1980, he moved back to Nipawin where he articled with his father. David would remain in Nipawin for the next forty years, practising law. For several years, David belonged to the local Rotary Club. In his younger years, he enjoyed snowmobiling and golfing. He also took a keen interest in vintage classic and specialty cars. Over the years, he acquired, and sometimes restored, several of these. His latest acquisition was displayed in the local car show only one week before he passed away.

On February 14, 1998, David married Gabriela Bazlikova. Gabriela brought to the marriage three adult children. Gradual additions to the family were a daughter-in-law, son-in-law, ten grandchildren, and numerous cats who came and went. David and Gabriela’s house was a drop-off point for cats looking for people who would treat them royally. While many people might know that David was an excellent public speaker, few would be aware that he was also a natural at acting, easily playing the role of Santa for Gabriela’s delighted grandchildren at annual Christmas gatherings.

On February 13, 2018, David was diagnosed with cancer. He began taking chemotherapy, and fought the disease stoically, and without complaint. However, the disease turned out to be stronger than he was, and by 2020, its progression could no longer be halted.

David was predeceased by his father, James, in 1985 and his mother, Pauline, in 2015. He is survived by his loving wife, Gabriela; his sister, Joan Eremko, of Regina; Gabriela’s children, Dora Dixon and Gabi Lindenbach (Josh) of Saskatoon and Albert Orban (Tammy) of Drayton Valley, AB, his uncle and aunt, Gene and Joyce Krawchuk, of Scottsdale, Arizona, and four cousins.
