Arthur Elijio Varela Age 78, lifelong resident of Pecos passed away peacefully at home with his loving family at his side on January, 21,2011. Arthur retired from teaching at Pecos High School and was well known throughout the community as a personable man with a witty sense of humor who loved his family and was proud of his heritage. He is preceded in death by his wife, Emilia; father Jose C.; mother, Elvira; sister, Dolores Martinez; brothers Eugenio and Bobby. He is survived by his daughter, Janice Varela of Pecos; Robert Rodney Varela of Washington D.C.; Joseph Randolph Varela of Albuquerque; Artie Varela of Los Angeles, CA; and Ricky Varela of Pecos; six grandchildren; Kiko, Ursula Montagne, Erik; Antonio, Courtney, Riley; and one great grandson Demetri Friedman. Arthur had many nieces, nephews, friends and relatives. Arthur will be missed by the many he educated and touched with his lively spirit. A memorial service will be held at the Louis G Sanchez Jr. Memorial Gymnasium on Saturday, January 29
