On Tuesday, September 8, 2020, Donald Gregory LeGrand, loving husband and father of two children, passed away at the age of 86.

Don was born on October 1, 1933 in St. Louis, Missouri to Albert LeGrand and Clara Bollinger LeGrand.

As a child growing up during the great depression, he spent his childhood playing sports in south St. Louis, and became a talented athlete as he enjoyed playing baseball as a pitcher and basketball as guard at St. Francis De Sales High School.

Don enlisted in the United States Navy in 1956. He was very proud of his service to our country and spent two years active duty aboard the minesweeper USS Esteem after the Korean War, and another four years in the Navy Reserves before receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1961. He maintained a fondness for ships and sailing that lasted into his later years.

Don met his loving wife Dolores and they were married April 16, 1966. Together they raised two children, Laura and Christopher, and resided in Florissant, MO for over 30 years.

Don had an enduring love of music, particularly jazz, and was himself an accomplished musician, playing flute, saxophone, and clarinet. Before enlisting in the Navy, he taught music to aspiring young musicians who shared his passion at Ludwig Music Store in St. Louis.

Don graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a Bachelor of Science in 1971 and received his master's degree in Engineering Management from the University of Missouri - Rolla (now known as Missouri University of Science and Technology) in 1992. Don spent 30 years of his professional career working for McDonnell Douglas Corporation (later Boeing Corporation) where he was most proud of working on the NASA Gemini and Apollo projects which put man on the moon. He also played a part in the development of the systems that became components of the F-15 and F-16 military aircraft.

Don loved his family and his church. He was a fan of science fiction shows like Star Trek and Dr. Who. He spent his lifetime as a St. Louis Cardinal baseball and football fan, and enjoyed astronomy, sailing and cycling while also partaking in the occasional bag of White Castle "belly bombers", family BBQs, and Imo's St. Louis Style Pizza, and even though he always said he "didn't" have a sweet tooth, he really did like frozen custard. After Don and Dolores retired, they both moved to Georgetown,TX to live where he continued enjoying his favorite passions & past-times. He was also much more than all of these things. He was a talented, kind, thoughtful, and generous man who will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Don was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Clara, and his five older siblings: Will, Albert, Jeanne, Dorothy and Jerome.

He is survived by his wife Dolores, his daughter and son-in-law Laura LeGrand Sansone and Jon Sansone, his son and daughter-in-law Christopher LeGrand and Kay Vosburgh LeGrand, his two grandsons, Brian and Christopher Sansone, many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank all the caregivers and staff of Georgetown Living and Tranquility Hospice in Georgetown, TX for all of their love, outstanding care, and support given to Don and his family.

Memorial Mass will be officiated by Father Jairo Sandoval-Pliego at St. Helen's Catholic Church on a future date yet to be determined.

In memoriam, please send donations to either San Jose Catholic Church (St. Vincent DePaul Society), 2435 Oak Crest Avenue, Austin, TX 78704 or St. Helen's Catholic Church, 2700 E. University Avenue, Georgetown, TX 78626.
