APPLICATION FOR REVOLUTIONARY WAR PENSION

STATE OF VIRGINIA

DECLARATION

In order to obtain the benefit of the Act of Congress passed June 7, 1832

STATE OF TENNESSEE 1844
WARREN COUNTY On this first day of July, Eighteen hundred
and forty four, personally appeared in Open Court, before the Court of Warren
County, now sitting, James CHESSHER, a resident of the County and State
aforesaid, aged about eighty seven years, who being first duly sworn according
to law, doth on his oath make the following Declaration in order to obtain the
benefit of the Act of Congress, passed June 7th, 1832.

That he first entered the service of the United States under the folowing
named officers and served as herein stated, viz -

When he first entered the service, he volunteered under Capt. WALL in
Mecklenburg Co., Va., where he resided at that time, and marched from there to
Guilford County, NC, where he joined the army under General GREENE, and where
we had a battle with the British, but does not now recollect the year, but
thinks it was in the month of March or April, and after the first three months
tour expired, he was discharged from the Army; and returned home, and has
since mislaid, or lost, said discharge, which was given to him at Ramsey Mille
on Deep River by Genl. GREENE. He further declares that he was drafted for
three months in Halifax County, Virginia, and served under Capt. (illegible)
WORTNER and marched from there to Little York when informed the army under
Genl. WASHINGTON, at which time and place he was in the engagement at the
taking of Cornwallis, and remainded there until the fort was given up - which
was not long before the close of the year, and after which he returned home,
and he further declares that he has no documentary evidence, and that he knows
of no person now living by whom he can prove his service.

He hereby relinquishes every claim, wheter to a pension or annuity, except the
present, and declares that his name is not on the pension roll of the agency
of any state.

Sworn to and subscribed this day and year aforesaid.
