He was born October 27, 1931 in Plano, the son of Ephraim and Caddie Peterson. He attended grade school in Plano and graduated from Idaho Falls Highs School.
After high school he joined the U.S. Air Force and served in Korea during the Korean Conflict. [He married Leah Lou Hansen on Mary 23, 1952 in Idaho Falls, Idaho.] After returning from duty, he farmed in Plano. He married Janis Marlene Eck on September 22, 1961. The marriage was later sealed on November 26, 1976 in the Washington D.C. Temple. Before the Berlin Conflict in 1962 he transferred to the 145th Engineer Combat Group Unit in the Idaho Falls Reserves. He then became a member of the Army Air Cops, where he went to flight school and became a pilot for fixed and rotor wing aircraft. He continued serving his country while in the Army from piloting aircraft, going to command and general college, as well as coordinating the training for reserve units. He served all across the country. He retired in June 1984 from Fort Harrison with honors and a lieutenant colonel.

After retiring from the Army, he received his doctorate in education from Ball State University in Indiana and worked as a government contractor in Arizona. In 1993 he and his wife served an LDS mission in Bulgaria. While living winters in San Diego, he taught English as a second language to adults. During the summers, they worked in Yellowstone National Park. He enjoyed flying, camping, fishing, and RV traveling to see his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
