Virginia Lee (Jennings) Barger, age 86, passed away September 4, 2020, at her home in Joplin, Missouri, surrounded by family. Virginia was born February 17, 1934, in Stanberry, Missouri. She was the ninth of ten children born to Chauncey Ora Jennings and Ora Zora (Gunter) Jennings. Her parents and all siblings, Wayne, Ermal, Evelyn, Harold, James Hollis, Holland Lester, Murvin, Deloris and Helen Jennings have preceded her in death.
Virginia is survived by her husband of 68 years, Isaac "Ike" Barger; daughter, Brenda Barger-Saunders and spouse Gary Saunders of Joplin Missouri; grandson, Chris "Brendan" Saunders and spouse Brigitte of Pensacola, Florida; and grandson, Brice Isaac Saunders and fiance' Katy Johnson of Joplin, Missouri.
Virginia graduated from Maryville, Missouri high school. She obtained a Bachelor of Science in Education from Northwest Missouri State Teacher's College in Maryville, Missouri, and a Master of Science in Education from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas.
Virginia worked as a paid soloist in many Joplin churches and temples. She taught high school in Duenweg and Neosho, Missouri. She also taught Business Administration at Crowder College, Neosho, Missouri, and was an Assistant Professor for the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and Little Rock, Arkansas.
Virginia was highly accomplished. She developed and copyrighted the first-of-its-kind, "Simulated Office Operation, Retail Sales Organization Teacher's Edition", which was extensively used in business education courses at the time. In 2009, she published her book, "From Virginia to Virginia a genealogical autobiography of Virginia Lee Jennings Barger". She was the administrative side of her husband Ike's, successful home construction business. Virginia was active in many organizations, among them were Tau Delta Omega, American Association of University Women, Joplin Community Clinic and Joplin Women's Club.
She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed socializing with her many friends. She devoted much of her thought and time to assisting, encouraging and often bragging about her husband, daughter and grandsons whenever possible.
A celebration of Virginia's life will take place on Monday, September 14, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. in the Air Chapel at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. We will be observing social distancing practice and face masks are welcome, if you plan to attend.
