Funeral services for Mrs. Mildred Adkins, 45, Army Special Services club director, will be conducted at 10 a.m. today at Spring Hill. Dr. Monroe F. Swilley will officiate. Burial will be in Oglethorpe? Cemetery in Stephens. Mrs. Adkins, a native of Maxey’s Ga., served with the Army Special Services Branch for about seven years in Florida and in Europe, She returned to the United States from Europe last July and had been critically ill since March. She died Thursday night at the home of a sister, Mrs. A.E. Mapp, at 2390 Alton Rd., N.W. In Europe Mrs. Adkins was director of clubs in Rheims, France, Wiesbaden and Berlin and at Wells and Salzburg, Austria. She was club director at Camp Gordon Johnston, Fla., for three years before going overseas. Mrs. Adkins was reared and attended schools in Stephens and later lived in Athens. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Stephens. In addition to Mrs. Mapp, Mrs. Adkins is survived by two daughters, Mrs. M.W. Staab and Miss Gloria Adkins, of Atlanta; a son Ted McWhorter Adkins, of Washington, D.C.; her mother, Mrs. Howell Cobb Young, Sr., of Atlanta; two other sisters, Mrs. Paul Roberts, of Atlanta; Mrs. S.L. Maxwell, Jr., of Augusta; three brothers, George H. Young, of Columbus; William K. Young, of Atlanta; Howell C. Young, Jr., of Boston Mass., and one grandson.
