Gertrude Deweese was the daughter of Stephen Edward "Ned" Deweese and Amanda Mary Layman of Grayson County, Kentucky. Her paternal grandparents were Isaac Herrall Deweese and Abigail Mahurin. Her maternal grandparents were Gideon Layman and Margaret Deweese (originally Dewees). Gertrude was born in Grayson County in 1875. She married Andrew Jackson Layman, the son of Jacob Warren Layman and Malinda C. Nally. Andrew Jackson, who was known as Jack, was born on December 9, 1875 in Grayson County. Gertrude Deweese Layman died in Jefferson County on April 30, 1933. Jack Layman died in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky on December 9, 1937. They are both buried in the Old Caney Cemetery in Leitchfield, Grayson County, Kentucky.
